Crossway Church has a long and rich history of serving the community with a building at Elephant and Castle for almost 150 years. In 1866, the South London Mission was established at Elephant and Castle by the London Congregational Union. In 1905, the Union built a new church building – Crossway Central Mission. In the late ‘60s the church was demolished to make way for the new Heygate Estate and a new Crossway Church building was opened in 1973 by three members of it's former congregation. Crossway has always been seen as the heart of the community.

This coincided with the congregational church nationally coming together with the Presbyterian Church (and later with the Churches of Christ) to form a new Christian denomination – the United Reformed Church. Today, the United Reformed Church is made up of 100,000 people across 1600 congregations. It combines a commitment to the Reformed tradition with a desire to see greater collaboration between all Christian denominations. For more information please see

Our present building at 100 New Kent Road, which will be knocked down as part of the E&C Regeneration Project, and a new building erected at the heart of the new development.
